Story of Sail Me Away

Sail Me Away
SHINTARO KONO, 2025
A small boat-shaped light made for going far away.
In the Edo period, Japanese wooden cargo ships called benzai-sen
were central to maritime transport.
Under the national isolation policy, sailing into the open ocean was forbidden,
and uniquely Japanese single-sail ships developed instead.
Today, with a single swipe on a screen,
we can feel as if we have seen landscapes from all over the world.
Yet our bodies remain motionless,
and our hearts never quite manage to set sail.
This light is a piece of living equipment that holds
this “homeless” feeling of wanderlust for just one night.
Size: 14 × 24 × 20 cm (5.5" × 9.4" × 7.9")
Materials: Engineered Polymer, electronic components
